ASTMMC holds DOH Surgical Caravan
To deliver essential health services to the marginalized Filipinos across the country has always been one of the many important values upheld by the Department of Health (DOH). And this year, the conduct of the Surgical Caravan “ToDOH Alaga, May TSeKaP na, May Operasyon Pa!” proves the continued commitment of DOH to provide surgical intervention to the Filipinos who need it most.
The Surgical Caravan is a follow-up program of the Philippine Health Agenda – Checkup to guarantee the provision of fundamental healthcare, especially among the poor, both the well and sick. Ours was facilitated by the Department of Health - Caraga Regional Office, in collaboration with the local government units, and Adela Serra Ty Memorial Medical Center (ASTMMC) as the host hospital.
Twenty-three (23) skilled and dedicated visiting hospital personnel from Batangas Medical Center were deployed in the province to support ASTMMC in the conduct of the surgical caravan, led by their team leader, Dr. Froilan U. Dacumos. The Provincial Health Team also sent twenty (20) NDP nurses and three (3) medical technologists for enhanced operational assistance to the caravan, while the Provincial Health Office deployed five (5) district hospital OR nurses, and provided supplemental medical equipment for the event.
Participants of the caravan came from most municipalities in the province namely: Carrascal, Cantilan, Madrid, Carmen, Lanuza, Cortes, Tandag City, Tago, San Miguel, Bayabas, Marihatag, San Agustin, Lianga, Tagbina, Hinatuan, Bislig City and Lingig. The participants underwent several screening procedures from their respective RHUs to the host hospital to ensure their medical eligibility for the surgery. While some of them were priority beneficiaries identified by the LGUs, the caravan also admitted walk-in patients as long as they qualify for the operation.
